Aisha Lorraine Stanyon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on May 17, 1948, in Gloversville, NY, to Roscoe and Mildred Stanyon, Aisha's life was a testament to compassion, creativity, and community spirit.
She was one of four siblings: Roscoe, Thomas, and Pamela. She cherished her roots and carried the values instilled by her parents throughout her life. Aisha's nurturing spirit was evident from an early age and blossomed as she established her own family.
Aisha was married to her loving husband, Moussa, for 14 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared interests. She was the proud mother of DeForest, Danialah (Nicholas), Lukas, and Jala, and a devoted grandmother to Isaiah, Carter, and Dalton. Her family was her greatest joy, and she invested her heart in their growth and happiness.
Aisha's love for music was the cornerstone of her career and personal life. She worked for many years at BOCES as a music instructor, where she inspired countless students with her passion and expertise. Later, she became the music teacher at Au Sable Forks Elementary School. Her dedication to music education touched generations, and her retirement marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with community involvement and creative pursuits.
Aisha's vibrant spirit was reflected in her many hobbies and activities. She lovingly maintained her small farm, raised chickens, and operated her Hip Camp "Ubuntu," welcoming guests with warmth and hospitality. For over 20 years, she sang joyfully as a member of her local gospel choir, sharing her voice and faith with the community.
Gardening, knitting, painting, and music-whether playing, teaching, or mastering new instruments-were lifelong passions. Aisha also devoted herself to raising dogs, including training therapy dogs, and was an avid horse lover. She participated in Pony Club and 4H activities with her daughters, fostering a love of animals and the outdoors.
Aisha Stanyon will be remembered for her boundless generosity, creativity, and love for others. Her impact as an educator, her devotion to her family, and her enthusiasm for life enriched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, music, and community spirit.
She is survived by her husband Moussa; children DeForest, Danialah (Nicholas), Lukas, and Jala; grandchildren Isaiah, Carter, and Dalton; siblings Roscoe, Thomas, and Pamela; and a wide circle of friends, students, and community members who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Aisha's life will be held in May 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to local music education programs or animal welfare organizations, causes close to Aisha's heart.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, PO Box 127, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks, NY 12912.
