Amy L. Drake, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Au Sable Forks community, passed away on February 8, 2024, at the age of 58, surrounded by her family at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Amy's departure has left a deep wound in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on May 10, 1965, in Plattsburgh, NY, Amy was the daughter of the late Bert and Joan Pray. She was a 1983 graduate of Au Sable Valley High School.
Amy dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. As a Direct Support Professional, she walked alongside adults requiring assistance, providing love, care, and support. But Amy's nurturing spirit didn't stop there - she also wore the hats of a chef and a daycare provider, sharing her warmth and compassion with countless individuals.
Within her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Amy showcased her unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity. Her family meant everything to her, and she poured her heart and soul into creating a loving and nurturing environment for them. Amy's husband of 40 years, Howard Drake, Sr., her children, Howard, Bert, and Joan, along with her grandchildren, will forever cherish the memories they shared with their extraordinary mother and Nana.
Amy's vibrant personality and welcoming nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She accepted everyone with open arms and embraced the diversity of those around her. With her perpetual smile and immense passion for family, especially her grandchildren, Amy radiated light wherever she went.
In addition to her commitment to family and work, Amy was an active member of her community. She served as a dedicated member of the Au Sable Forks Fire Department and was honored as a Junior member of American Legion Post 504, exemplifying her love for serving others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Lillus and Carl Blanchard, and Gladys and Holton Pray; parents-in-law Joan and Ernest Drake; sister-in-law Edie Rosio; niece Olivia Drake; nephews Richard Drake, Jr., and James Drake.
Amy's memory will be treasured by her loving husband, Howard Drake, Sr., her children Howard (Christina) Drake, Jr., Bert (Krystal) Drake, Joan (Christopher) Hozley; stepson Paul (Kate) Drake; and her cherished grandchildren Lillian Coolidge, Isabelle Drake, Leah Coolidge, Khloe Hozley, Trent Drake, Bert Drake, Jr., Lorelai Drake, Ruben (Danielle) LaFontaine, and Christopher (Emily) LaFontain; and great-grandchildren Ellyana LaFontaine and Jaxson LaFontaine. She is also survived by her brothers Bert (Joyce) Pray, Brian (Tina) Pray, James (Brenda) Pray; her brothers-in-law David (Dianne) Drake, Edward (Helen) Drake, and Frederick (Wanda) Drake, along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6:00 pm. All are invited to a reception at the Au Sable Forks Fire Department at 6:30 pm, providing an opportunity for all to come together and remember the incredible impact Amy had on their lives.
In honor of Amy's life and her extraordinary kindness, the family kindly requests donations be made to Mountain Lakes Services, an organization close to her heart, providing support and care for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Amy L. Drake will forever be remembered for her compassionate nature, her joyful spirit, and the beautiful legacy of love she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
