David Bushey, Sr.

David K. Bushey, Sr. of Jay, NY, passed away on February 23rd, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Black Brook on May 15th, 1933 to David and Alice (Miller) Bushey.

The youngest of 4 children, he grew up farming and logging and then moved to Ballston Spa where he worked at a dress factory fixing sewing machines. It was in Ballston Spa that he met his wife Margaret and following their marriage, bought a house in Jay and became a heavy equipment operator working for several different contractors before retiring in 1995. He helped build the development known as Au Sable Acres and took great pride in his work, often pointing out places he had worked on over the years. He used to joke that he had dug up half the North Country.

One of the highlights of his life was his involvement with the Brigadiers Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. From 1978-1985 he drove one of the buses and was looked upon as a second father to all the kids in the corps. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed nothing more than sitting by a campfire at Fern Lake waiting for a fish to bite. He also had a talent for vegetable gardening and was always happy to share the extra with friends and neighbors.

When his health prevented him being as active, he loved just sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. He never met a stranger, and he was always willing to help someone in need.

He was predeceased by his wife Margaret and his brothers Victor and Joseph, as well as his sister Iva.

He is survived by his son David and daughter Lisa and will be dearly missed by many others.

In the last months of his life, he took great comfort in the constant companionship of his dog Loki. In honor of his love for animals, any donations in his memory can be made to Out of the Pits Inc.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
