Frank Harte Madden, age 94, passed away peacefully at Meadowbrook Subacute Rehabilitation Unit on April, 30, 2026, after spending the day with his loving family.
Born on October 3, 1931 in Troy NY, to Frank Hubert Madden and Marguerite Loyola (Harte) Madden, he was their only child. The family moved to Au Sable Forks in 1932 where Marguerite passed away when Frank was 10 years old. He graduated from Au Sable Forks High School in 1949 and soon after, enlisted in the US Air Force. He served overseas in the Korean War as a radar operator for 18 months and then in Saratoga, NY until honorably discharged on October 9, 1953, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant. He married Constance Clare Kemp on December 18, 1954. He then attended the University of Vermont where he graduated in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. His first job after college was in California working for Douglas Air Craft followed by several years working for Perini Corp. and Luck Bros in Plattsburgh. He obtained his NYS Professional Engineering license and Land Surveying license on May 23, 1966. From 1968 to 1973, he was resident engineer with the NYS Department of Transportation in Hamilton County, then Clinton County. In 1973, he was appointed Superintendent of the Clinton County Highway Department and Landfill until he retired from that position in 1991.
Frank was a man of varied interests. He was part of the original running boom in the late 1960's earning him the nickname of Fleetfoot. He also loved sailing, skiing, ice skating, roller blading, fishing, and riding his motorcycle well into his 80's. In his later years he earned his pilot's license and was co-owner of a Cessna 150 airplane. He was the ultimate DIY guy. In the summer of 1970, he renovated the 1800's farmhouse in Peru for the family to move in just in time for school to start. The next summer he started building the family camp on Silver Lake in the Town of Black Brook. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the camp he and Connie built on Silver Lake.
He is survived by his children, Marguerite Madden, Lori Deyoe (Bryan), Michael Madden (Judy), Ellie Bouffard, and Joseph Madden (Sandy); grandchildren Kemp Remillard, Ayn (Remillard) Allen, Paul Deyoe, Mark Deyoe, Marie Bouffard, Thomas Bouffard, Nicholas Bouffard, Connor Madden, and Ethan Madden; and two great-grandchild, Caleb Deyoe and Cooper Allen. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Marguerite Madden, by his step mother, Isabel (Farrell) Madden, and by his wife, Constance (Kemp) Madden, to whom he was married to for 69 years.
Per his request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass in his honor will be held at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks, NY on Friday, June 5th at 11:00 am immediately followed by his burial at Fairview Cemetery in Au Sable Forks, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's remembrance to the CVPH Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
