Gary Frenia

Gary E. Frenia, 75, of Guide Board Road, passed away at CVPH Medical Center on Friday, August 11th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Peasleeville on July 7th, 1948 to Edmond & Martha Frenia.

Gary attended Peru Central School and graduated in 1966. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. He married the love of his life, Katherine L. Whisher in 1969. He worked for DUPONT and later Georgia-Pacific, from where he retired in 2009 after 30 years of service. Gary proudly served the Town of Black Brook in various positions for 47 years, 30 of which as Town Justice. This was a position he was very proud of and held in high regard. He was a fair and honest Judge and was respected by all who knew him. Gary was an avid community servant, also serving as a member of the American Legion for four decades.

Gary's compassion and sense of humor was evident in everything he did. You could always count on him for advice or just a listening ear. He was a friend to all who knew him. He was a special mentor to his daughters, sons-in-law and especially his grandchildren. He was their go to person to help solve any problems.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, brother Gordon, sister Pam, a very special nephew, Randy E. Duprey and several other beloved family members.

Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy; his two daughters, Andrea (Mike) Mitchell of AuSable Forks and Amanda (Chris) LePage of Peru; five grandchildren, Brandon LePage, Andrew Mitchell, Kyra Mitchell, Emma LePage and Kaelyn LePage, his sisters Pat LeClerc, Debbie (Randy) Duprey, Sherry Frenia (Richard LaDuke) and Brenda (David) Donah; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Kris Lauzon and Fr. Clement Rimonds at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow with U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard immediately following Mass at Holy Name Cemetery in Au Sable Forks.
