Gerald Hall

March 8, 1949 — July 11, 2025

Jay

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald "Gerry" Elder Hall, age 76, who passed away on July 11, 2025, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 8, 1949, in the tranquil community of Keene Valley, NY to Spencer Hall and Gertrude Martin, Gerry lived his entire life in Jay, NY, where he cultivated lasting relationships and a legacy of service that will never be forgotten.

Gerry was a loving husband to Sarah (Jarvis) Hall, his beloved spouse whom he married on April 1, 1972. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Amy, and his son, Greg. He embraced family life with open arms, cherishing the moments spent together and the memories created over the years.

In his professional life, Gerry dedicated many years of service, initially working for Agway before finding fulfillment in his role at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at the Adirondack Correctional Facility, where he served as a civilian employee until his retirement in 2014. His commitment to public service extended far beyond his job. Gerry was an active member of the Jay Fire Department for 40 years, serving as chief for 12, and a founding member of the Au Sable Forks Ambulance Service, where he brought his passion for helping others to life. He also shared his love for the outdoors and community through leadership in the Jay Boy Scout troop, serving as troop leader for many years, and co-chairing the Whitewater Derby Canoe Race.

As a Town Councilman for the Town of Jay for 20 years, Gerry played a vital role in shaping his community, retiring in 2015. During this time, he was also a member of the Essex County Republican Committee. His dedication didn't go unnoticed, and he proudly held membership with the Essex County Fire Police Association, serving as former president. Known to light the sky with fireworks on the Fourth of July alongside his crew in Jay for many years, Gerry brought joy to many that day, reflecting his loving spirit.

In his leisure time, Gerry cherished camping trips, hunting and fishing excursions, and quiet afternoons spending time on his porch watching the rapids and the charming, covered bridge. These simple moments were treasure troves of fond memories.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Spencer and sister-in-law Joan; and parents-in-law Agnes and Ralph Jarvis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sarah; his children Amy and her fiancé Chris Stevens, his son Greg and his wife Lisa; grandsons Matthew and Nathan; his sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Ellen and Jeff Dengler, Bruce Jarvis and Jacki Kelly, and Anne Jarvis; nieces and nephews Christine and Stacey Barie, Rebecca and Mike Gillett, Zachary Jarvis and Molly Nisson, and Trey Hall; as well as a special cousin who was more like a younger sister, Martha Gillilan.

The family would like to thank the staff at CVPH, Elderwood at Uihlein, and Adirondack Medical Center for their care in his time of need.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home during calling hours on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Name Church with burial following at Norton Cemetery in Keene.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gerry's memory to the Jay Fire Department or the Au Sable Forks Ambulance Service, organizations close to his heart.

Services were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, PO Box 127, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks, NY 12912.
