Howard I. Trumbull, known to most as "Trum" or "Gramp" passed away on May 9, 2025 surrounded by his daughters, Karen and Kristy.
He married Laura Hardy in 1948 and they remained together until her passing in 2013. They were known in high school for winning "jitterbug" contests where people would throw silver dollars.
Trum lived a very adventurous 95 years. Since he was too young to join the military (although he tried twice) he remained on the Trumbull farm and helped raise the animals and took care of the chores. He learned horsemanship from a very young age and would later go on to become a "trick rider" at Frontier Town performing all types of stunts during the wild west shows.
Later in life he joined forces with Dave Torrance to form Torrance & Trumbull Construction. Some of the most recognized building projects are Champlain Park on Cumberland Head, Paleface Lodge, High Falls Gorge bridge system, Wilmington KOA campground, the Hungry Trout Restaurant, and countless other commercial and residential buildings in the area.
Trum and Laura operated the Ski Hut at Paleface where both were ski instructors. Dad really enjoyed being involved with the ski programs offered through the local schools.
Dad spent his last years "on the job" at North Country School as plant manager. Upon retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed traveling in their motorhome making trips from Maine to Florida and west to Arizona and California.
All who remember Dad will say he had the "gift of gab". He loved going to the store and Post Office to see all of his friends and share stories.
No doubt he will be entertaining his family and friends who have passed before.
Happy Trails Dad. We love you.
A private memorial will be held by the family. Anyone wishing to remember Howard, please make a donation to the Wilmington Fire and Rescue Department. We are most grateful for their caring support.
Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Au Sable Forks, NY 12912.
