James Martin Dillenberger, a devoted family man, accomplished craftsman, and passionate outdoorsman, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2023. Born on August 14, 1963, in East Orange, NJ, James lived a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
James, also known as Jim, was a man whose spirit embraced the great outdoors. He found solace in hunting, swimming, biking, and running, making him an avid athlete. With an impressive track record of completing seven Ironman competitions, James demonstrated his remarkable determination and endurance. His passion extended to mountain climbing, marathons, and half-marathons, which allowed him to challenge himself and savor the beauty of nature.
A true master craftsman, James took great pride in his work. Building guide boats was his favorite endeavor, but he also showcased his talent by constructing houses and creating exceptional furniture. With his impeccable skills and attention to detail, James left a lasting mark in the carpentry industry.
For 25 years, James dedicated his time and energy as a valued member of the Au Sable Forks Fire Department, serving his community and ensuring the safety of others. His selflessness and commitment exemplified his noble character.
Above all, James cherished his family. His adoration for his wife Debra, lovingly known as Debbie, was unwavering. Together, they created a beautiful life, filled with joy and unforgettable memories. James was a proud father to his children Alex and Marissa, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His grandchildren, Leah and Noah James Hannan, and Grace and Paisley James Dillenberger, held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his dog Yoshi; his father; and step-father Clyde Douglas.
James is survived by his wife Debbie; children Alex (Nicole) Dillenberger and Marissa (Sean) Hannan; grandchildren Leah and Noah James Hannan, and Grace and Paisley James Dillenberger; siblings John (Gerri) Dillenberger, and Rose (Charles) French; mother Lorraine Douglas; parents-in-law Bev and Bill Hickey; nieces and nephews John, Christopher, Haley Hickey; Steven, Nicholas, Courtney DiFiore, Tyler French, Amanda Waldron; sister-in-law Marybeth (Scott) Taylor; brother-in-law William Hickey II, Shelley Hickey; a special aunt Kathy Gagnon and special uncle Bobby (Margaret) Hickey.
To honor James' memory and his passion for serving others, donations can be made to the North Country Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, an organization close to his heart.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with a Memorial Service to celebrate his life at 3:00 pm at the Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home.
A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Au Sable Forks Fire Department, 29 School Lane.
