Lorraine Alice Willis, (1927-2025), formally of Plattsburgh and Upper Jay, was carried to the Lord's Kingdom in heaven on October 31. She was a devoted Catholic who prayed every day and enjoyed Mother Angelica's spiritual teachings on TV. Lorraine was a devoted wife to her late husband Bill, and a loving mother to her five children: Maureen Mitchell of Plattsburgh, Michael Willis of Fern Lake, Diane Mehrman of Jay, Brian Willis of West Warwick, RI and Kevin Willis of Wilmington.
Born in Albany, NY on October 3, 1927, to Joseph and Blanche Fontaine, Lorraine worked at General Electric, Whiteface Mt., Santa's Workshop and as a receptionist at a medical office in Florida. She loved to watch just about any sporting event on tv, with the Kansas City Chiefs her favorite football team. She was especially fond of ice-skating competitions, golf, politics, and much to our surprise, all kinds of martial arts.
Lorraine loved the beauty of nature and enjoyed car trips throughout the Northern Adirondacks. Spring and Fall were her favorite seasons. She was interested and curious about everything - from trees and flowers to homes and architecture, to history and documentaries. Despite her age, she was one smart cookie. Until just a few months ago, Lorraine looked forward to food shopping at Price Chopper, where she slowly perused the aisles for unique products and, of course, sales. She would spend quite a bit of time in the pastry, cookies and candy aisles and was never known to pass up the opportunity to eat a donut, a pastry, a piece of pie or cake. She also had a soft spot for animals, especially cats and birds.
She made many friends at her Set Point condo in Plattsburgh, and at Victory Place, her Independent Living Home for the past year.
In addition to her children, Lorraine leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Matthew Miller (Maureen), Denise Fox and Danielle Crawford (Michael), John and Justin Mehrman (Diane), Adam Willis (Brian) and Cameron and Tyler Willis (Kevin); eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The Willis family is grateful for the loving care provided by the Skilled Nursing Facility and CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
There will be a celebration of Lorraine's life at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 6 and funeral services on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11:00 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Au Sable Forks, NY followed by burial at Holy Name Cemetery.
