Marilyn H Cross

9/6/1930 - 10/9/2026

Born September 6, 1930, to William F. & Lottie W. Hathaway. 5 years later, her brother William was born. They grew up on Wells Hill, in Lewis. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Sprinkle, Granddaughter Charlotte Crowe (Frank Scheuer), great-grandchildren Kyle & Kortney Scheuer, & nephew Gary Allen Hathaway. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband John W. Cross, and nephew Randy C. Hathaway.

Marilyn married John W. Cross in 1960 and they built their home in north Lewis. They loved camping and traveling throughout the country, first with tents and later on with campers.

Marilyn had a lifelong interest in local history and genealogy. She was a wealth of knowledge about Essex County history and preserved it in her writing. She had short stories dating back to her teen years on Wells Hill. She was part of a writers group writing Growing up Strong as part of four women growing up in Lewis and Elizabethtown, describing their experiences. Later on she compiled Whispering Pines and finally her friend Barbara Mathews published a compilation of short stories in a new book, Memories of the Past 90+ Years.

When she wasn't writing she was crafting; knitting , crocheting, sewing but she was the most proud of learning rug braiding from her grandmother and mastering the skill. She produced many beautiful rugs and taught a few others the skill.
