Michael Stephen Pattno, 86, formerly of 6 College Street, Au Sable Forks, New York died on February 15, 2026, at UVM Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Michael was born on November 17, 1939, the son of Francis and Elizabeth (Duggan) Pattno of Au Sable Forks, New York.
Michael graduated from Au Sable Forks High School in 1957 and Fordham University. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967 as a Cryptologic Technician 3rd class (CT3) and was assigned to the USS Liberty (AGTR-5). He was proud of having served his country. Michael was fluent in several different languages and utilized his foreign language skills during his service. After his discharge Michael taught French and English in both Elizabethtown and Au Sable Forks, New York high schools and then worked in the family business of H. Pattno & Son.
In his retirement he cared for his disabled brother at home for many years. Michael was a devout Catholic, proud of his community and grateful for the wonderful neighbors he had for so many years. In April of 2024 Michael moved to Champlain Valley Senior Community (CVSC) where the staff were compassionate and treated Michael like family. He was able to live at CVSC until March of 2025 when he moved to Meadowbrook Healthcare. In the last several days of his life he was admitted to UVM Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital where he received wonderful and compassionate care from the physicians and staff in ICU, R4 and R7. Their kindness and care for Michael meant so much to him and his family.
Survivors include his cousin and her family, Debbie & Noel Stewart and their children Katherine (Katie) Carnahan, Glen Stewart, great-niece Abigail Carnahan and great-nephew Adrian Chapple.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Francis and Elizabeth Pattno, brother John, paternal grandparents Henry and Ella Pattno, maternal grandparents Cornelius and Anna Duggan, and aunts and uncles.
Donations in Michael's memory may be made to the Au Sable Forks Ambulance Service or Holy Name Catholic Church in Au Sable Forks.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks, New York. Burial will follow Mass at Holy Name Cemetery.
