It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roger Gene Douglas, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Roger peacefully left this world on January 27, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on June 21, 1949, in Plattsburgh, NY, to the late Myron and Theresa (Passino) Douglas.
Roger, a proud and devoted family man, will forever be remembered for his love and support. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cindy (Depo) Douglas, and their children Sheree (Chris) Ford of Keeseville, Marie (Marcel) Leduc of Salisbury, VT, Julie (Brad) Lawrence of Au Sable Forks, and Roger (Amanda) Douglas, Jr. of Clintonville. Roger will also be lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren James Mason, Hailey Lawrence, Keagen Miller, Peyton Ford, Jenna Ford, Kendal Lawrence, Arlo Leduc, Taylor Lawrence, Iliza Douglas, Eli Lawrence; and great-grandchildren Porter Madrigal, Walker Durgan, and Mason Jackson. Roger was predeceased by his brother Rodney Douglas, Sr. One cannot forget Roger's loyal companion, Poppy, his beloved dog who will always by his side for eternity.
Roger began his journey through life by graduating from Keeseville High School in 1968. He then proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972. Roger was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, aboard the USS Knox DE 1052, serving two tours in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for 27 years at Ward Lumber Company. He took pride in his job working his way up the chain and becoming Plant Manager.
Outside of his professional life, Roger found immense joy in spending quality time with his family and his beloved Fern Lake family. He had a zest for life and reveled in playing shuffleboard, cornhole, horseshoes, and poker with his friends. Friday nights were always a special occasion, gathering around the fire, sharing stories, and creating cherished memories.
Roger was an active member of his community and faithfully served as Past Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion Post 504 for 10 years. He also held the positions of Past Commander and Quartermaster of VFW Post 1505 in Keeseville. Roger's dedication to his fellow veterans and his passion for serving others will always be remembered.
