Rose Sheffield

Rose M. Sheffield of Au Sable Forks entered eternal rest on January 8, 2023.

Born in Black Brook on July 26, 1924 to Victor and Margaret "Maggie" LaFountain Betters. She was married to Arthur Sheffield on September 14, 1942 and they were married for 35 years.

Rose is survived by her son Arthur "Sonny" and wife Downa Lamere Sheffield of Keeseville; granddaughter Lisa Mangual and husband Mannie; and great-grandsons Bryan and Kennie of Florida; a step-granddaughter Cindy and husband Jon Strack and great-grandsons Mike and daughters Kazlynn and Emberlee, and Kevin, Jonathan and his wife Katrina and daughter Isabelle of Keeseville; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She started actively hiking when she was 77 years old. She hiked numerous high peaks including Phelps and Catamount. On her 80th birthday, she did Mt. St. Regis with a smile on her face and a skip in her step. She also enjoyed bingo, OTB sewing, knitting, and crocheting. But before this, at the age of 12, she worked at summer camps on Silver Lake. She was a volunteer for RSIP for many years at the Au Sable Valley Senior Citizen site. She also knitted hundreds of items and donated them.

In addition to her husband Arthur, who entered eternal rest on June 5, 1977, she was predeceased by an infant daughter Cecilia; her father Victor Betters and mother Margaret LaFountain Betters, two sisters Violet Hackett and Marie Parrotte.

At her request, there will be no calling hours.

A Spring Graveside Service will be held and the date announced at a later time.

Friends wishing to remember Rose may make memorial contributions to Holy Name Church.
