Shirley Stanley, a beloved Math Professor and founding faculty member of Schenectady Community College, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, in Au Sable Forks. She was a determined individual with a strong faith in God, whose impact extended beyond the walls of the classrooms she taught in. Shirley's life was one filled with accomplishments, compassion, and a deep love for education.

Born on July 15, 1937, in Jay, NY, Shirley's intellectual curiosity and passion for mathematics emerged at an early age. She pursued her dreams diligently and embarked on a career that saw her shaping countless lives through the power of education. With a desire to widen her horizons, she later moved to Arizona where she taught math at Mesa Community College for two decades.

Throughout her career as an educator, Shirley infused her teaching methods with creativity and an unwavering dedication to her students' success. She was renowned for her ability to simplify complex mathematical concepts and make them accessible to students of all backgrounds. Many former students fondly remember how she instilled confidence in them and imparted not only mathematical knowledge but also valuable life skills.

Outside of academia, Shirley nourished her adventurous spirit by traveling all around the world. Shirley is survived by her loving sister Evelyn Stanley, as well as her extended family members Jane (Tom) Thwaits, Peggy (Marvin) Bombard, Chuck (Kathy) Haywood, Sr., Bob (Sue) Haywood, Sr., and Judy (Tim) Hart. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memory of Shirley Stanley will forever be etched in our hearts. Her determination, passion for education, and strong faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her life was one filled with purpose and profound impact.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with St. James Pastor Mother Patti Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's name to St. James Church in Au Sable Forks or to High Peaks Hospice, 1247 Dix Ave, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Services were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, Au Sable Forks, NY.
