Vernon Seguin, Au Sable Forks, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born on May 17, 1932 to Theodore and Viola Seguin.
Vernon began his working life at the J & J Rogers Company, where he built a reputation for reliability and a strong work ethic. His sense of duty led him to serve honorably after being drafted in the United States Army during the Korean War.
After his service, Vernon brought his talents to Bill McBride Chevrolet and Cadillac, and later to the Au Sable Valley Central School Bus Garage. As a mechanic, his skill in fixing engines was legendary. He was known for his ability to diagnose and repair even the most stubborn machines, earning the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of those he helped.
Vernon's love for engines extended beyond the workplace. He found joy in working in the woods with his friend, Chet Furnia, appreciating nature. With his wife, Eva, Vernon traveled far and wide in their fifth wheel RV, making unforgettable memories-especially during their annual camping trips to Florida. He treasured the simple pleasures in life, from watching cowboy movies to laughing at Saturday morning cartoons like Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner. One of his favorite traditions was watching The Wizard of Oz with his children whenever it was on the television.
In his later years, Vernon lived with his daughter Suzanne, finding contentment in watching people drive by and sharing moments together.
Vernon dedicated much of his life to the care of Fairview Cemetery, working alongside Sue to maintain its beauty and tranquility. His lifelong commitment included building pine boxes with his father, a tradition that spoke to his values of service and craftsmanship. Vernon's presence at the cemetery was a testament to his devotion to the community and his respect for those who came before him.
In the last months of his life, Vernon was surrounded by the steadfast love and friendship of his wife, Eva, who cared for him at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theordore and Viola Seguin.
He is survived by his children: Linda (Dennis) Seguin of Palm Bay, Florida, Elizabeth (Richard) Bouyea of Rockledge, FL, Sharon (Chester) Pulsifer of Spring Hill, FL, Suzanne (Charles) Deyoe, Jr., of Au Sable Forks; his grandchildren Alan (Carrie) Winchell, Jesse (Traci) Shambo, Corey (Jen) Bouyea, Jessica Cardinell (Rusty Appalucci), Michael Manor, Matthew (Linda) Deyoe, and Bradley (Renee) Deyoe; and great-grandchildren Jesse and Aubrey Shambo, Alexis and Brayden Winchell, Theodore Manor, and Triton Flora and Landon Brown.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.
Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, PO Box 127, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks, NY 12912.
