Warren Atkins

Warren Edward Atkins, 76, of Kingsland, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2025. He was born September 21, 1948, in Mt. Kisco, New York, and is survived by his wife of 21 years, Edith; his first wife Pam (Stone) Atkins and their sons James Atkins and Gregory (Tammy) Atkins; stepdaughter Lorie Winters Hebert; brothers Jimmie and Bobby Atkins, and sisters Donna (Vinny) Rosetti and Nancy (John) Askew; as well as his three grandchildren, Brandon (Savannha) Atkins, Brianna Atkins, Tyler (Dru) Atkins; and three great-grandchildren, Avery (Bazzano), Theo and Audrey Atkins. He is predeceased by his parents Howard and Dorothy Atkins, as well as his brother Kenneth.

After graduating from Somers high school in Westchester County of NY, Warren immediately pursued a career in power line construction. He completed his journeyman lineman apprenticeship in the Northeast through IBEW Local 501, which later became part of IBEW Locals 42 and1249, where he remained a respected member throughout his working life. He continued his career with Florida Power and Light, serving with distinction as a lineman and trouble man until his retirement. He completed 46 years of service with the IBEW at the time of his retirement in 2013.

Warren was remembered for his generous heart, thoughtful nature, and organized manner. He was a man of quick wit, easily building friendships through engaging conversations about his wide-ranging life experiences. Having worked extensively across America, he often shared fascinating insights from his travels. His choice of career suited his nomadic and independent nature always living life on his own terms.

He had a passion for history, especially military history, devoting countless hours studying and sharing his knowledge. Warren also loved restoring vintage vehicles, proudly displaying his beloved 1948 GMC pickup truck at local car shows. A true enthusiast, he cherished following racing events, especially when his sons or grandsons, Brandon and Tyler, were competing. Warren also eagerly looked forward to his annual visits to the north country, reconnecting fondly with friends and family.

Earlier in life while residing in Au Sable Forks and Saranac Lake, NY, Warren enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting, later he became an avid firearm enthusiast. He was active in his community as a dedicated supporter of veterans.

Memorial services celebrating Warren's life will be held at Allsion Memorial Chapel in St. Mary's, Georgia on July 19th, 2025, from 11:00-12:00 and at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks, NY, on Friday, August 1st, 2025 from 4:00 - 5:00 with a celebration of life reception to follow at 20 Main in Au Sable Forks.

His warmth, wisdom, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
